Last week we conducted a short survey of our clients asking how they thought that the Olympics this summer would impact upon their business.
We were expecting some apprehension – however the opposite seems to be true! More than 2/3 of companies surveyed say that they are excited or very excited about the forthcoming Games, while only 10% are concerned about their business this summer. Half think that the Olympics will be beneficial to productivity, a quarter expect to see a normal summer, while just 25% think that the Games will have a negative impact on their output.
When it comes to organisation, however, businesses don’t seem to be quite so organised – only 10% of companies are completely prepared, while a further 60% have addressed the possibility of disruption to some extent but need to look at it further. 15% are concerned about how fast it is approaching and plan to engage with employees ASAP.
The results were divided when it came to recruitment over the summer – 30% see the Olympics as having no affect at all on their recruitment plans, while 30% think that it might impact up on hiring due to distractions, annual leave etc. 15% consider that the Games will considerably slow down planned recruitment due to decision makers being unavailable.
