Graduate Systems Engineer

The role:
Summary of duties
*Linux/UNIX build and administration
*Documentation of operational systems and services and general operating procedures.
*Providing an active input into development projects.
*Personal development through shadowing systems architects.
*1st and 2nd line problem resolution.
*Out-of-hours and on-call work.
*Physical work in a data centre environment where temperature, humidity and noise may be different from a typical office.
*Any other work as detailed by your line manager.
Required skills
*Good knowledge of Microsoft, Linux or UNIX server operating systems.
*Experience in Java development.
*Good knowledge of the web development life-cycles.
*Good knowledge of web hosting.
*Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
*Creativity in approach to problem solving.
*Demonstrated interest in learning and personal development.
*Flexibility for working in a complex and changing environment.
*Ability to multitask.
*Good communications skills, both oral and written.
*Ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as work independently with limited supervision.
Your Profile:
The ideal candidate for the Graduate Trainee Systems Engineer will be bright, personable and have an interest in how the internet works. It is essential that all applicants for this role have a minimum of a 2:1 degree from a top 20 university. The successful Graduate Systems Engineer will have studied Java, Unix/Linux, web development and java. The ideal Graduate Systems Engineer will be keen to learn and build a career within a growing, entrepreneurial business. The ideal applicant will have knowledge of web development life cycles and web hosting.
