Graduate journalists take note: NoW site launch to include bloggers to cover football

7 August 2008 17:03

The move from print to digital is taking one step further as the News of the World has revealed it will have finished its new website by next week.

The newspaper joins over half of the main daily broadsheets and tabloids in announcing a new website format or revamp in the past six weeks, as the competition becomes fierce among online news readership.

Speaking about the changes to the News of the World's website, associate editor Gary Thompson said that the new launch will include more prominence to articles written by unpaid bloggers.

"At the very least we will have posts [from fans] over the course of the weekend before and after games to make our coverage comprehensive, but it will be set up in such a way that they can file at any time - it will be a rolling thing," Mr Thompson told the Guardian.

"The same rules will apply to them [bloggers] as to our chief sports writers. The rules of libel apply to them as much as anyone else," he added.

As well as a new take on public domain journalism, the site will focus more heavily on video content, and visitors will notice a new page layout.

Although Mr Thompson made it clear that bloggers contributing to the site will be picked from existing sports bloggers, the issue nevertheless raises questions over the future trend of journalism and who will be writing for publications in the near future.
