Immigration standards could improve graduate recruitment

19 November 2008 12:20

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has warned that an employment shortage could hit the social care industry, creating a goldmine for graduates looking for work.

Graduate recruitment has long been under the microscope as the economic crisis becomes perilously close to a full-blown recession, but the opening of jobs in the care sector could plug a graduate recruitment gap.

With the government amending immigration quotas in order to favour British workers and reduce unemployment the prospects for graduates throughout 2009 are beginning to look more positive.

The government's list of jobs that can be filled by immigrants from outside the EU currently includes a range from engineers and scientists to sheep shearers and filleters of frozen fish.

It was predicted last month that graduate recruitment would drop by around one per cent throughout 2009 but with more jobs becoming available through stricter immigration laws graduates may have extra chances to join the workforce.
