PR recruitment still high for graduates

Graduate recruitment among PR companies has not buckled under the pressure of the current economic crisis, a report has stated.

In contrast to many fears that suggested the economic downturn would lead to a reduction in graduate recruitment it has been found that many of the large communications groups have expanded their graduate recruitment this year.

"Weber Shandwick, Freud Communications and Edelman have all increased their graduate recruitment levels in 2008, indicating that bringing in new talent remains important to the industry," reported Brand Republic.

Favoured graduates are now reportedly those which have not just travelled but lived abroad, the Council for Industry and Higher Education found.

Joining a recruitment agency, however, can be an effective way of ensuring graduates discover the best jobs and are well prepared to take such positions.

Typically companies react to a recession by conserving cash and reducing expenditure on advertising, which has already had an effect on ad-reliant media.

The news that advertising-related recruitment has not been affected, though, will be reassuring to many.
